From an Unjust Arrest to Death

An Ahwaz Arab activist was killed under torture.

Emad Heydari, 31 years old, the son of Hayal, a resident of Malashieh region, was arrested by the Ettela’at (iran intelligence) 9 days ago during the mass protests and arrests.

Emad Heydari, a civil activist from Malashieh was part of people’s committees, has been involved in a lot of activities to help flood victims, and because of his activities, he has been arrested four times and was recently released on bail.

Emad Heydari is married few months ago.

Emad was just a human who cared about his community more than anything. He was healthy and just became a groom. He was taken by the security forces on 27th of September 2022 and was killed on 6th of October 2022. The regime buried him quietly. Public called for Ahwazi activists to participate in Emad’s funeral ceremony in Malashieh area of ​​Ahwaz city. The body of Emad Heydari was buried by the security forces on Friday morning.

According to local sources, the security forces buried Emad Heydari’s body in the presence of one of his brothers in the “Firdous Garden” of Ahwaz, and prevented his family from holding a mourning ceremony.

Despite the threats of the intelligence department, Heydari’s relatives held a mourning ceremony in Mandali suburb in Ahwaz.

Bagh Ferdous in the east of Ahwaz is the burial place of executed people and unknown persons.

Emad Heydari was arrested ten days ago after being summoned by the IRGC intelligence and was killed in the Ahwaz IRGC intelligence detention center, but the intelligence department called his death a “stroke”.

Torture; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; arbitrary detention and imprisonment; of hundreds of political prisoners, are just few examples of how the Iranian regime violates the human rights.

We are calling upon Mr. Javaid Rehman the United Nations special rapporteur for the situation of human rights in Iran and Mrs Agnes Callamard the UN special rapporteur on extra Judicial execution to intervene and stop the Iranian criminal regime from executing innocent prisoners that were arrested without any legal warrant.
