In Ahwaz, it is Artists’ turn to be thrown in Jail

Hassan Sobhi-pour the Director of the Ahwazi Cultural Institution “Nasr”, Hossein Eshghian (Saki) the Makeup Artist of the Ahwazi Cultural Institution “Nasr” and Bagher Khasraji a member of the Ahwazi Cultural Institution “Nasr” have been arrested and taken to an unknown location.

On Wednesday 20th of March, The Ministry of Intelligence arrested 3 members of the Ahwazi Cultural Institution “Nasr” after releasing a musical clip empowering and representing the Arabic culture of the Arab people of Ahwaz.

It is worth noting that any associations in Iran that promote the language or culture of the ethnic minorities are illegal and violently suppressed.

The latest musical video called “United” united Arab people of Ahwaz. Hassan was arrested from Alawi Neighborhood from his home. Hossein was arrested from his office in Golestan Neighborhood.

No information is available on the charges against all three detainees but there is nothing new about these types of stories. The regime will torture the activists, then sentences them on fabricated charges.

Even though Hassan (the director) of the musical video clip had the permission to record and publish the musical video clip.

Ahwaz Arabs has long engaged in protests over issues such as the right to use native languages in schools and courts, to local health and environmental concerns.

The Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights reiterates the need for the international community to hold Iranian government accountable for continues Arbitrary arrests of Ahwazi Arabs.

We, Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights are calling on all human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the European Parliament to address the situation of Ahwazi Arabs and put an end to human rights violations towards Ahwazis.
