We will hold members of the Iranian regime accountable for their violent repression of the Iranian people. #Internet4Iran<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"640\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 352 \/ 640;\" width=\"352\" controls src=\"https:\/\/adpf.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/3-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2013 The U.S. Department of the Treasury\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) took action today against Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Iran\u2019s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13846, for his role in the Iranian regime\u2019s widescale internet censorship.  Internet access in Iran, managed by Azari Jahromi\u2019s ministry, was blocked for several days in November based upon what Iranian authorities describe as national security concerns in the wake of anti-regime protests throughout the country.  The recent internet blocking follows similar patterns that occurred in 2017 and 2018.  Azari Jahromi, who is a former employee of Iran\u2019s notorious Ministry of Intelligence, has advanced the Iranian regime\u2019s policy of repressive internet censorship since he took office in mid-2017 and has also been involved in surveillance against opposition activists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"480\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 480 \/ 480;\" width=\"480\" controls src=\"https:\/\/adpf.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/4-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2019\/11\/1051981\">We are deeply concerned at reports of killings and injuries, and that the authorities may have used excessive force against those participating in the protests.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pulling the plug on internet access points to wider concerns of censorship, the independent experts said: \u201cA country-wide network shutdown of this kind clearly has a political purpose: to suppress the right of Iranians to access information and to communicate at a time of rising protest. Such an illegitimate step deprives Iranians not only of a fundamental freedom but also basic access to essential services\u201d, they explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"640\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 350 \/ 640;\" width=\"350\" controls src=\"https:\/\/adpf.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/5-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iranian authorities have warned of decisive action should protests not subside, which raises serious concerns that the situation could spiral further, the experts said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They encouraged the Government to \u201cseek and engage in dialogue\u201d and refrain from measures which compromise demonstrators\u2019 human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"352\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 640 \/ 352;\" width=\"640\" controls src=\"https:\/\/adpf.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/11\/ugzkM32zrX-WLent.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2019\/11\/iran-more-than-100-protesters-believed-to-be-killed-as-top-officials-give-green-light-to-crush-protests\/\">Iran: More than 100 protesters believed to be killed as top officials give green light to crush protests.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The authorities must end this brutal and deadly crackdown immediately and show respect for human life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We (Ahwazi Democratic Popular Front) call upon the Iranian authorities to release immediately and unconditionally any Ahwazi person detained solely for the peaceful exercise of their rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly or, solely, ethnic identity.
