Statement of Condemnation of the Iranian Occupation and Solidarity with the Ahwazi People

Banning the teaching of the Arabic language in Occupied Ahwaz – a continuation of the occupation’s crimes since 1925

The political, legal, national, and patriotic forces that signed this statement strongly condemn the continuation of the Iranian occupation and its crimes against the Ahwazi Arab people since April 20, 1925, the day the independent Arab State of Ahwaz was overthrown by military force, followed by systematic repressive policies targeting land, people, and identity.

The banning of teaching the Arabic language – the mother tongue and national identity of the Ahwazi Arab people – and the imposition of forced education in Persian constitutes an ongoing crime within a colonial project aimed at erasing Arab identity and altering the demographic composition of the Ahwazi people through:

  • Confiscation of land and national resources.
  • Displacement of the indigenous population and settlement of Persian colonists.
  • Suppression of popular uprisings with mass executions, prisons, and torture.
  • Prohibition of the Arabic language in official institutions, education, and public life.

These policies represent a clear violation of international law, including:

  • The Charter of the United Nations (Article 1, Paragraph 2).
  • The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Articles 2 and 26).
  • The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (Article 27).
  • The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (Articles 8 and 14).
  • The 1948 Convention on the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide.

Through this joint statement, we affirm the following:

  1. The right to self-determination and the restoration of national sovereignty over the entire land of Ahwaz.
  2. The expulsion of the Iranian occupation and recognition of the Ahwazi people’s right to independence and the establishment of their free state.
  3. International prosecution of the Iranian occupation for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
  4. Arab and international, official and popular, support until full liberation and independence.

We, the undersigned,
Call upon the United Nations, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take urgent steps to stop the crime of banning the teaching of the mother tongue, the Arabic language, in Occupied Ahwaz, and to dispatch an international fact-finding mission to Ahwaz.
